The Birmingham & Midland Institute is located in the heart of Birmingham, on Margaret Street next to the Birmingham School of Art (now part of Birmingham City University) and close to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery. The BMI is a registered charity whose aim is the ‘Diffusion and Advancement of Science, Literature and Art amongst all classes of persons resident in Birmingham and the Midland counties’.

The Poetry Centre at the BMI is a venture to bring (more) poetry into Birmingham: we run events for poets and poetry-lovers alike, including readings, open-mic nights, book launches and workshops. Birmingham is a creative city with a rich heritage, where the arts thrive.

The Library at the BMI has a wealth of poetry and critical texts which will be of use to those with an interest in poetry. For more information about the Library, see here.

The Poetry Centre is organised by Dr Serena Trowbridge of Birmingham City University. Serena is one of the Trustees of the BMI. You can contact her via the Contact page.

The BMI’s website can be found here.
